Come to think of it, Hisoka is actually one of the five main characters of Hunter x Hunter. This unpredictable magician has been around since the Hunter exam arc, and now he is sometimes a threat and sometimes an ally of Gon, Killua, and their friends. Are you curious about him? Then check out these nine facts about Hisoka!
1. Failed the Hunter exam
The 287th Hunter Exam (the one that Gon, Hisoka, Leorio, and Kurapika took) was not Hisoka’s first. He had previously taken the 286th Hunter Exam. Then he severely injured Togari, the exam proctor he disliked.
When he retakes the exam a year later, Hisoka passes easily. He completes all the exams with ease, except for Menchi’s first exam. Interestingly, Hisoka causes Menchi to be grumpy and doesn’t judge fairly in the second round of the exam. The urge to kill Hisoka ruins Menchi’s mood.
2. The uniqueness of the blue hair color in the 1999 anime version
Oh Hunter x Hunter TV7 viewers, remember that Hisoka’s hair was blue in the 1999 anime? Hisoka’s real hair is actually red. In the end, the 99 version of the anime also fixed Hisoka’s hair color back to red.
What’s interesting is that Hisoka actually likes to change his hair color. Hisoka’s hair color in Yorknew should be light green. However, for this version, both the 99 version and the 2011 version do not present the green color.
3. Can let people live whose potential he feels can still develop
Hisoka is unpredictable. He can cut off someone’s arm just because they bumped into him, and then not apologize.
When Hisoka has to fight someone, he usually ends up killing his opponent. However, because of his strange way of thinking, Hisoka can forgive someone.
The people Hisoka forgives are usually those who are not yet “mature.” Those who have the potential to become stronger in the future. This seems to be the reason Hisoka forgives Leorio, Kurapika, and especially Gon and Killua.
However, if for example to make someone hunt him because of revenge, Hisoka could kill someone he considers potential. In the Hunter Association chairman election arc, Hisoka considered killing Killua so that Illumi would hunt him. The most important thing for Hisoka is an exciting fight.
4. His full name is Hisoka Morrow, and it was only revealed when he was about to fight Chrollo.
Here’s an interesting fact about Hisoka. For years, Hisoka was known by the name Hisoka alone. Hisoka’s full name was revealed by Hisoka Morrow only after he fought Chrollo Lucilfer.
Anime viewers may not be aware of this Hisoka fact since Hisoka only fought Chrollo near the Dark Continent arc, which has yet to be adapted.
5. Have Nen which is actually simple, but can be used flexibly
There are some Nen which if you know its ability, then it is easy to avoid its user. For example, Missileman owned by the Chimera Ant wolf, Welfin, where Welfin can still be attacked even though his missiles are launched.
Nen Hisoka is basically simple. With Bungee Gum, he can create a rubber texture that is stretchable and attractive. With Texture Surprise, Hisoka can change the appearance of a texture. (Like changing the contents of a message in a letter, or changing the tissue stuck to his body to skin color).
Simple, isn’t it? However, that’s what makes it so Texture Surprise And Bungee Gum dangerous: Hisoka can use both of these techniques with so many variations, that even enemies who already know Hisoka’s strength can’t defeat him. Especially since Hisoka can actually take advantage of the explanation Bungee Gum to trap the enemy, like he did to Gon and Kastro.
6. Didn’t know if the Chimera Ant arc was happening
You might be wondering: if Hisoka loves fighting tough enemies, where was he during the Chimera Ant arc?
As weak as the Chimera Ants were, they could at least entertain him. Especially when he had to fight enemies like Leol and Cheetu.
It is revealed that Hisoka has not been following the news. He has no idea about the Chimera Ant arc because he is busy chasing Chrollo to duel with the leader of the Genei Ryodan.
The moment he found out about Chimera Ant was probably when Hisoka came to “vote” at the Hunter headquarters.
7. Defeated badly by Chrollo
When Chrollo fought Hisoka in Heavens Arena, Chrollo had already set up a situation where Hisoka couldn’t defeat him.
Utilizing new abilities, especially those he borrowed from Shalnark and Kortopi, Hisoka eventually ends up dead.
However, with the help of Bungee Gum, Hisoka can bring himself back to life. Hisoka himself now has prosthetic arms and legs made of Bungee Gum.
8. Last seen, Hisoka was about to hunt down the Genei Ryodan
Last seen, Hisoka killed Shalnark and Kortopi and then seemed determined to slaughter the Genei Ryodan before dealing with Chrollo.
Chrollo himself should no longer have Shalnark and Kortopi’s abilities (unless Nen they are the type that become stronger after death).
On the other hand, the Genei Ryodan is now hunting Hisoka. Interestingly, Hisoka also hired Illumi to kill him, and now Illumi is helping the Genei Ryodan in the hunt.
9. Even though he is sadistic, Hisoka uniquely helps Gon more often.
As discussed in a separate article, Hisoka may seem antagonistic, but so far he has helped Gon more than he has caused trouble. In the fourth round of the Hunter exam, Hisoka killed Geretta (who had paralyzed Gon and stolen his exam number) and returned his number plus Gon’s own.
In Heavens Arena, Hisoka forces Gon and Killua to fight on the 200th floor until they at least understand the basics of Nen. In Greed Island, Hisoka even helps them fight Razor. It is Hisoka who ends up finishing Razor off, with the help of Bungee Gum and his tricks.
All of this is of course because Hisoka wants to fight Gon, whose potential he likes.
