Associação Fictosexualidade is created for those who have romantic feelings for fictional characters

We have already presented here the story of Arihiko Kondo, a 40-year-old man from Tokyo who “married” the character Hatsune Miku. His union with the character took place in November 2018, and since then, the relationship has remained very strong.

In order to provide a safe space for those who have romantic feelings for characters, Kondo founded the Associação Fictosexualidade in June 2023 so that they can receive mutual support.

Arihiko Kondo says that, when he returns from work, he greets Miku, waiting for a response that never comes, but that nevertheless comforts him and makes him smile.

This may seem weird to many people, but Kondo says having affection for fictional characters isn’t that unusual. According to a national survey conducted in 2017 by the Japan Sex Education Association, more than 10% of high school and college students, both men and women, have had romantic feelings for characters in video games and anime.

Arihiko Kondo is an optimistic man, as he dreams of a world where people can freely celebrate their love for fictional characters, even holding weddings with them. Arihiko and Hatsune Miku have been “married” for 5 years.
