Author Says He Wanted to Approach Mushoku Tensei’s Harem in a Serious Way

What did you think of the development of Rudeus having two wives? After being abandoned by Eris and being so traumatized that his friend stopped standing up, he ended up being saved by Sylphie, who became his first wife and even had Rudeus’ first daughter.

However, something surprising happened: he and Roxy met again. She fell in love with him and, because of the situation with her father, he was also saved by her. Thus, Rudeus told Sylphie that he would like to have Roxy as his second wife, which actually happened.

Sylphie and Roxy, Rudeus' wives

Many fans were really upset with Rudeus for breaking his promise to Sylphie and getting involved with another woman, as well as wanting her as his second wife. They were even more upset when they saw that Sylphie accepted all of this.

As I mentioned earlier, Sylphie had already shown herself to be very “open-minded” about this. During her childhood, she saw Rudeus’ father, Paul, have two wives and children with each woman, so from a young age, she was already used to it.

So much so that even the author commented on it:

“If it weren’t for Sylphie, this wouldn’t be forgiven”he commented on Twitter. Let’s stop and think: if Roxy was the first wife, she probably wouldn’t forgive Rudeus for having another woman, the same goes for Eris. Therefore, Sylphie is the perfect first wife to make the harem route possible!

In another tweet the author commented: “I know some of you may have different opinions, but I tried to seriously approach the development of the harem in a reincarnation in another world and faced it head on as best I could.”

It’s interesting to see that the author, from the beginning, wanted to show Rudeus having more than one wife, and I believe he did it in the best way he could. It’s even more interesting because this way we don’t have to worry about heroines “losing”.

Let’s see the audience reactions with the harem route seriously?

“Everyone understands so well, it’s funny. Norn-chan helped balance things out, but the ‘Milis-sama won’t allow it!’ part was hilarious.”

“It’s a commercial work, so the author probably wanted a harem, and so we see some convenient plot developments. But even so, I think the story tries hard to justify these choices.”

“From the author’s point of view, cheating or having an affair must be the same as polygamy. That’s crazy.”

“That’s why I’ve always hated Mushoku Tensei. I’ve said it many times.”

“Lately, the weird otaku fantasy boom has ended and now what’s popular is anime aimed at older women, so works like this will disappear.”

“This anime emphasizes sex scenes quite a bit, which is a bit uncomfortable.”

“Watch Goblin Slayer or the one with the healer and then come back to this one. You’ll realize that Mushoku Tensei is just a pure anime with a different style.”

“Having sex with Roxy must be amazing. Damn, she must be a virgin.”

“I stopped reading this in the past because I didn’t like it, but in the anime it’s even worse.”

“The real action starts in season three. And not in the sense you’re thinking.”

“I thought foreigners would criticize more, but they are loving it, it’s funny.”

“In reality, polygamy must be even more full of jealousy.”

“Well, anyway, Norn-chan already said everything I wanted to say…”

What did you think of the harem route in Mushoku Tensei? Or did you think Sylphie should have been angry and not accepted Rudeus’ betrayal?
