Alright, let’s do it! Part two of “Boruto” is here, and the subtitle “Two Blue Vortex” is already giving the impression that Jougan will be a key player in the tour. Boruto is there with this magical eye of his, but everything is still up in the air about what he can do with it.
In the “Narutoverse”, the baddest guys have dojutsu, which are these crazy powers in their eyes that do a lot of things, like copy techniques on the fly or create monster illusions. This all started with Kaguya Otsutsuki passing these powers to her children, Hagoromo and Hamura. Normally, dojutsu runs in the family, but you can apply it to those who weren’t born with it too.
The best-known dojutsus are the Uchiha’s Sharingan, the Hyuga’s Byakugan, and the Rinnegan, which comes from Hagoromo. Then we have Jougan, which is exclusive to Boruto and first appeared in the anime and then in the manga.
The Jougan, or “Pure Eye”, is basically an eye without much expression, somewhat bluish, that glows when activated. Only the Otsutsuki gang knows about him, and even then it’s all a bit hazy. Boruto is not Otsutsuki nor has he had an eye transplant, so how he has this Jougan is one of the mysteries of the moment. But looking at his lineage, it makes sense that he has this power, since he descends from Hagoromo through his father and Hamura through his mother.
The first time people saw Boruto’s Jougan in action was in episode 14, in a fight between Sumire and Mitsuki. He doesn’t control it very well, but when it rolls, he uses it well. There are some people who still doubt whether Jougan is canonical, because he barely appears in the manga.
At the end of Part 1, Boruto’s right eye is damaged, but it seems that Jougan manages to restore his vision.
Now, in Part 2, perhaps we will understand Jougan better. He has already shown that he lets Boruto see chakra and map chakra systems, like the Byakugan. And there is also the Space-Time Ninjutsu parade, which he has already noticed and entered portals to other dimensions. This could be crucial since his parents were trapped in another dimension by Kawaki.
Jougan is causing a lot of debate among fans, so this “Two Blue Vortex” only increased people’s curiosity to see what this eye can do in the manga. Boruto will need a heavy upgrade to face Kawaki and Eida and save his family, so Jougan must be part of this scheme. But his success will depend on how he understands and controls the Jougan, including the dangerous connection to the Otsutsuki clan.
