Crunchyroll is testing AI for subtitles

And the discussion about the use of AIs continues in the world of anime, it was only recently that we published all the bullshit with the author of Kanojo Okarishimasu using AI in an art and now this one.

Recently in an interview, the president of CrunchyrollRahul Purini, confirmed that Crunchyroll is testing generative AI in subtitles and closed captioning.

Crunchyroll is testing AI for subtitles

The test is an effort to “optimize its processes” to allow for the release of subtitles in more languages closer to the Japanese release date of seasonal anime episodes.

The company is also testing generative AI to help users personalize their experience and discover titles, and is testing AI in general for different workflows within the company.

Crunchyroll already released an episode of the anime Yuzuki-san Chi no Yon-Kyōdai with “low quality” subtitles, which generated complaints from users, shortly after the episode was removed and returned to air with new subtitles.

Now it’s time to see how the use of AI for translation and subtitles will turn out, some Japanese companies already use AI to translate manga.
