Oh, so, have you heard of “Delicious in Dungeon”? It’s gonna be awesome! The anime will premiere on January 4, 2024, and will air on Tokyo MX and a bunch of other channels. And look, Netflix will dub and broadcast the series all over the world, starting on the same day.
The plot revolves around Laios, Marcille and Chilchuck, three friends who go on a dangerous adventure in a dungeon. They are there to save a colleague, but there is also a cooking stop in the middle of the journey. Pretty unusual, right?
And yes, “Delicious in Dungeon” has its origins in a manga. Ryōko Kuis is the guy behind it, and the story has been going on in Japan since 2014, published by Enterbrain, which is part of Kadokawa. In the United States, Yen Press began publishing since 2016.
The anime adaptation was announced in August 2022, and Studio Trigger, which has some killer animes on its CV such as “Kill La Kill” and “Cyberpunk: Edgerunners”, is taking care of the production. They’ve already done well before with “Little Witch Academia”, so expectations are high. Toshio Li will be the director of the anime.
As for the voice cast, it’s promising: Kentarō Kumagai will be Laios, Sayaka Senbongi will be Marcille and Asuna Tomari will be Chilchuck. People are eager to see how these talented voice actors will bring the characters to life.
About the story: it has this feel of dungeon exploration in a fantasy world, with guilds looking for the Golden Kingdom, a legendary treasure. Things heat up when six adventurers come across a dragon in a dungeon and have to run away. The leader’s sister, Falin, is eaten by the dragon, and the group is left with just Laios, Chilchuck and Marcille. They decide to go back to the dungeon and save Falin, but without many supplies. Then Laios comes up with the idea of using the monsters in the dungeon as food. During the journey, they meet Senshi, a dwarf who knows how to cook monsters.
The anime will show their journey through the dungeon, facing monsters, traps and making a lot of food. And the cool thing is that there is a touch of comedy with the characters’ reactions to the meals. So, you can prepare the popcorn, which will be quite an adventure, with a few culinary touches to give it that extra spice!
