This post will have spoilers! O today’s episode of Mushoku Tensei was quite sad because we ended up witnessing the death of Paul, Rudeus’s father and the icing on the cake was seeing that Zenith, his mother, is not healthy.
But how about I make the situation even sadder for you? Volume 12 of the light novel had a special edition with a Drama CD, released in 2016. This drama CD is from Paul’s point of view and we have what he thought while he was dying.

Paul: “My vision is dark, I can’t breathe, I can’t even speak, am I dying? At least… I wanted to confirm that Zenith is alive or not, not just that… Norn and Aisha, I wanted to see them again. Do they go to school? Have they grown? Lilia… what kind of face will she make? Even if it is troublesome…”
“…Will she cry? Damn… I’m full of regrets, I don’t want to die, there’s… there’s so many things I wanted to do…” At that moment Rudeus sees his father.
“But… oh well, it’s better than Rudy dying… be positive.” I bet it was at that moment that he smiled, seeing that Rudeus was alive.
Well… Paul didn’t want to die, but in the end he thought he was better than Rudeus, obviously, and now I hope Rudeus takes care of the family.
