Fans debate why Solo Leveling is “being ignored”

The Japanese Yaraon! reports on a discussion that is taking over Japanese forums, the reason why the anime Solo Leveling is “being ignored”. What do you think is the reason for anime’s lack of popularity? Solo Leveling?

Despite the high expectations and anticipation among fans, the series does not seem to capture the public’s attention in the way that was expected.

To make matters worse, it was announced that the next episode of “Solo Leveling” will be postponed to make way for a summary episode, which generated even more concern among fans. This delay is considered a bad sign, especially coming from the studio A-1 Pictures (86: Eighty-Six, Sword Art Online, Kaguya-sama: Love is War), which has already gone through similar situations with previous projects such as “NieR Automata Ver 1.1a” It is “86: Eighty-Six”.

News of the postponement further fueled debate online, with many fans expressing their disappointment and concern about the future of the series. Despite everything, some fans continue to hope that “Solo Leveling” can recover and reach its full potential in future episodes:

  • It’s like seeing Kirito again, I don’t see the point.
  • The battle with Cerberus was not interesting
  • The anime media did everything to increase the popularity of this series, but there were no good results.
  • The first half of the story was interesting, but eventually it turns into the same thing we’ve seen in other series
  • The reviews are bad simply because a story like this is no longer interesting.
  • I’ve only seen a video of the anime, I don’t have much idea what it’s about, but when you read the description you can’t help but compare it to Sword Art Online
  • In South Korean manhwa stories, there is a constant of characters who have been physically and verbally abused in the past becoming superpowered. We’ve seen so much already that it’s boring to see
  • Although Solo Leveling was original and interesting for its time, I think that in 2015, many similar stories that came later got their anime. They took too long to liven up Solo Leveling, they missed the opportunity
  • It’s much better than any light novel with weak characters, a shame they didn’t think of animating it about five years ago at least
  • It’s the power fantasy we’ve seen over and over again. Maybe Solo Leveling did it first in its time, but for the world of anime it came quite late
  • I read the original story and I know what will happen in the anime. I stopped watching after four episodes without having any special opinion, I didn’t find it interesting
  • With just one episode, Arifureta is much more interesting than that
  • I think it’s the best-selling manhwa in history and I didn’t expect it to be going unnoticed now that it’s been turned into an anime. I don’t think I’ve even seen enough to have an opinion.
  • It is simply an anime that is more appreciated outside of Japan than inside. Although they changed the name and settings to appear more Japanese, they were unable to resist nationalism
  • The status and mission screens are in English, not Japanese, so if you haven’t seen the manga, you won’t understand anything.
  • Like any story about a weak protagonist, the interesting part is just at the beginning.

Solo Leveling Synopsis

Ten years ago, after the “Portal” that connects the real world with a world of monsters opened, some ordinary people were given the power to hunt the monsters in the portal. They are known as hunters. However, not all hunters are strong. My name is Sung Jin-Woo, an E rank hunter. I am someone who has to risk his life in the weakest dungeons, “The weakest in the world”. Without having any skills at my disposal, I can barely make money in low-level dungeons… At least until I find a hidden dungeon with the highest difficulty within Rank D! In the end, while accepting my death, I gained a new power…
