Hunter x Hunter: This Is Why Kurapika Deserved More Screen Time

Hunter x Hunter, this iconic work that we follow, is a journey full of emotions and twists. At the center of the plot is Gon Freecss, that dreamy young fisherman, who decides to follow in the footsteps of his father, Ging, and become a legendary hunter. Gon’s search for his father is the guiding thread of many adventures and challenges he faces, but this story is not just about Gon.

Let’s talk a little about Killua Zoldyck, this incredible kid, right? He comes from a family of assassins, and at first he just wanted to free himself from this dark legacy. But throughout the series, we see how friendship with Gon transforms him. Leorio, with his big dreams of being a doctor and helping those most in need, is also a character that deserves to be highlighted. And, of course, we cannot forget Kurapika, driven by revenge and the sadness of the extermination of his clan, the Kurtas.

Now, talking more about Kurapika, the guy has an intense and captivating backstory. The scarlet eyes of the Kurta Clan are a key element, right? These eyes that turn red in intense emotions and are highly coveted on the black market. This all attracts the attention of the sinister Phantom Troupe, a group of criminals who don’t play around on the job. They are responsible for the massacre of the Kurta Clan, which sets Kurapika on a journey of revenge.

Kurapika’s Nen ability, Chain of Judgment, is one of the coolest things in the series. It is a powerful weapon against members of the Phantom Troupe, but the series doesn’t explore developing this ability as much as it could. It would be really cool to see more about how he improved these skills, as well as better understanding Kurapika’s evolution as a character.

And, speaking of which, after the Yorknew City arc, Kurapika kind of disappears from the plot. He appears a little in the President Hunter Election arc, but that’s it. It leaves us wanting more, you know? Kurapika has enormous potential, and many fans, including me, miss seeing him in action, interacting more with the other main characters.

Kurapika’s relationship with Gon, Killua and Leorio is another point that deserves attention. At first, they are super close, but later, everyone goes their own way, and that leaves a void. Especially since Kurapika and Leorio have less screen time compared to Gon and Killua.

Now, a point that always generates discussion among fans is the health of Yoshihiro Togashi, the creator of Hunter x Hunter. The breaks in the series create a mix of expectation and uncertainty. And with the recent news that he is working on the series again, we are left with a mix of hope and anxiety, wanting to see how the stories of Gon, Killua, Leorio and Kurapika will unfold.

Kurapika’s trajectory, full of tragedies, desire for revenge and unique Nen abilities, is one of the richest and most complex in the series. And there is still a lot to be explored. The ending is still open, and fans, like us, are looking forward to seeing how Togashi will tie up all these ends. Hunter x Hunter is truly a series that captures us, both for its striking characters and for its deep and exciting stories.
