Japan will receive the official rulebook for Yu-Gi-Oh!

A Shueisha announced that it will release the official book of rules for the collectible card game Yu-Gi-Oh! (Original Card Game) in Japan on April 26, 2024 for 1210 JPY (€8.00). It will have more than 250 pages and pre-bookings are now available on Amazon and on Rakuten. However, the Amazon is the only one that offers international shipping services.

The book has all the complete and updated rules of the popular card game, so it is possible that it could become obsolete over time and with the implementation of new mechanics. It should be noted that the book covers the OCG rules, which means that some rules may be different from those that TCG (Trading Card Game) players are used to using in tournaments due to small variations in names or texts.

Due to the large number of cards, effects, rules and limitations, the card game Yu-Gi-Oh! It became a very complex game. A recurring joke in the Japanese community is that Konami wrote the rules and text of the cards using the “Konmai” dialect, which is basically a play on the company’s name since there are such small differences in the text of the cards that they have major implications for the game. The various types of monsters can also cause confusion. A famous meme originated from the anime where the character Kachidoki (Iggy Arlo) from Yu-Gi-Oh! Arc-V I was under the impression that XYZ monsters were level 0 by default because they used Ranks, which is not true. The “Konmai” “meme” also extended to employees of Konami due to the fact that they do not know what to do in certain situations and resort to rules invented on the spot. Let’s hope this guide can resolve these and other dilemmas regarding one of the most famous collectible card games in the world.
