Annaka City police in Japan arrested a 21-year-old man on suspicion of selling letters Pokémon counterfeit.
The man reportedly sold 4 counterfeit Pokémon cards in October 2022 to two people for around $1,250. However, one of the buyers suspected that one of the letters was forged and contacted the police, who asked the police for help. Nintendo to check the letters.
A Nintendo ended up revealing that the letters were actually forged, which triggered an entire police operation that resulted in the seizure of more than 1000 counterfeit letters from Pokémon at the house of the man who ended up confessing to the crime.
The police now intend to find out where the forged letters came from and how they were manufactured. Among the seized letters were 400 letters in Japanese and English.
Last month the The Pokemon Company revealed which plans to start working closely with auction agencies to combat counterfeit products Pokémon.
