Jujutsu Kaisen: Explaining why Gojo’s return from the dead is necessary in the story

So, get this: Gojo Satoru is the guy in the world of “Jujutsu Kaisen”, right? Since he appeared, the author has shown that he’s not just another wizard – the guy is the strongest there is! And, throughout the series, we saw his monstrous power several times, showing that he is not messing around.

Gojo has always been like destiny personified. As the most powerful sorcerer, of course he would have to face the toughest villains. And then came his fight with Sukuna, one of the most epic clashes recently. In that fight, Gojo lost and, hell, he even gave up on living. But the fans are there, firm and strong, rooting for his comeback.

Speaking of Gojo’s role in “Jujutsu Kaisen”, he is kind of a big obstacle for the villains. The guy is so powerful that just being around makes the bad guys think twice. His presence changed the rules of the game, leaving criminals to sneak in the shadows.

But, of course, if Gojo was invincible all the time, the story wouldn’t move forward. So, at several points, he had to be moved out of the way. Like at the Kyoto High School parade, where a barrier prevented him from entering and made things much more tense. And in Shibuya, Kenjaku even managed to seal Gojo, removing the story’s biggest obstacle, which led to a bunch of sinister twists.

Then, in the Culling Game Arc, Gojo came back and faced Sukuna. If he won easily, the story would die there. So, the author had to find a way to remove Gojo from the scene again. His death was a bit abrupt, but it changed everything again, raising the stakes.

It’s clear that taking Gojo out of the game was essential for the story to evolve. If he had been around at key moments, like the Goodwill Event or Shibuya, everything would have been resolved quickly. His death, as sad as it is, was somewhat expected.

But Gojo isn’t just brute force, okay? He has dreams and motivations, and is a multi-layered character. He wants to change the Jujutsu Society and that’s why he became a teacher, to train students who will transform the world. There are still a lot of things he wanted to do, like giving Geto a dignified burial and closing the cycle with Megumi.

When the new generation of characters reaches Gojo’s level, perhaps he will no longer be a problem for the story to follow. Then, who knows, he’ll come back? For now, we wait.

And then, for those who want to follow along, “Jujutsu Kaisen” is available on Viz Media. The next chapter, 248, is scheduled to come out on January 21, 2024. So, will Gojo return? Let’s see what happens!
