Plant biology expert theorizes how Venusaur reproduces

The Pokémon world is full of mysteries and, as a result, many fans are always looking for answers to the most varied things in the universe of little monsters.

And in a recent post on Twitter, a graduate student from Fukui Prefecture who specializes in studying plant biology probably told how Venusaur reproduces.

He made the observation complete with a diagram that clarifies how exactly Venusaurs are supposed to reproduce:

”Male Venusaurs have only male rods, while female Venusaurs have both male and female pistils. This means that the plant is androdiicious, which is very rare. Apparently there are only 8 androdious species in the real world.”

The diagram in question shows the male Venusaur on the left and the female on the right. Androdicious means a species of plant that has male and hermaphrodite flowers on separate plants.

This means that female Venusaurs could reproduce alone or with pollen from a male Venusaur or another female. The post was a hit on Twitter, receiving many views and comments:

“I like this kind of Pokémon science”

”I like that the gender differences between Pokémon are serious enough for real researchers to think about them. It’s not just that the female has a heart-shaped tail or long eyelashes.”

The author of the post was surprised, as he didn’t expect it to become so popular:

”I never thought this post would grow so much. I’ll just do a little promotion. I’m currently in graduate school researching the flower called White Campion (Silene Latifolia), which is dioecious (has separate male and female plants). Trying to unravel the mysteries of the world Pokemon is seen as something extremely fun for many passionate fans of the franchise around the world.
