Eric Stuartwho voiced the characters Brock and James in the English version of Pokémonprovided homage through the X and called her his “partner in comic crime.” Also Veronica Taylor (who voices Ash Ketchum) spoke about the work of Rachael in life, and all the support they gave her during her battle with cancer. Her sister Lillis created a campaign GoFundMe in May 2024 for treatment.
The official account of Pokémon node Twitter also published a message in her memory. She states that her talent and work on the animated series brought the characters to life and that people will remember her for generations. She ends with thoughts and condolences to her friends and family.
In addition to her roles as Misty and Jessie, Lillis has voiced several species of Pokémon throughout the anime series and games, such as Jigglypuff (and its iconic song), Goldeen, Torchic, Beautifly and Vulpix. Lillis also played Cocco in Hunter x Hunter: The Last MissionMartina in Slayers NextPrincess Charlotte in Berserk and Utena in Revolutionary Girl Utena: The Movie. Interestingly, Tomoko KawakamiUtena’s voice actress, also died of cancer in 2011 when she was 41 years old.
