At the beginning of June we reported that the Kadokawa Corporation suspected of having suffered a cyber attack and a ransomware group has now revealed that it obtained 1.5 TB of data from the company, threatening to make it public if the Kadokawa don’t pay them.
In a statement to Kadokawa revealed that practically all of its departments were hit by this attack, from publishing, distribution, to web services, including merchandising itself.
A Kadokawa is not sure whether any personal information was obtained by the ransomware group, but stressed that it does not retain credit card information.
The scale of this attack and its influence on other companies belonging to the company are not yet known. Kadokawasuch as FromSoftware who just released a DLC for Elden Ringor the streaming service Niconico .
The ransomware group revealed that it plans to reveal 1.5 TB of confidential data on July 1, 2024, including contracts, legal documents, user and employee information, business plans, project data, financial records and other internal documents.
At the statement from the Kadokawa we can read:
- KADOKAWA is investigating the possibility of information leaks with the support of professional external organizations.
- KADOKAWA does not retain in its system any credit card information of the Group’s customers, including users of the Niconico service, and therefore, no credit card information will have been revealed.
- More precise information based on the results of the investigation is expected to be available in July. KADOKAWA will announce the information as soon as it is obtained.
