A Bandai Namco Entertainment posted this teaser trailer online Sand Land: The Seriesan anime series based on the manga Sandland in Akira Toriyama (creator of Dragon Ball) that will premiere on Disney+ in Spring 2024.

SAND LAND: THE SERIES will contain never-before-seen clips from the anime film SAND LANDfamous scenes from the original manga and a new story created by Akira Toriyama which continues from the film. The series also features the return of the film’s cast and staff.

The animation is from the studios Sunrise, Kamikaze Douga It is Animathe direction is Toshihisa Yokoshima (Tales of Crestoria: The Wake of Sin, Amanatsu, Cocolors, Dragon Quest games) which received support from Hiroshi Koujina (Ryoma! The Prince of Tennis, The Vampire Dies in No Time, Grenadier), the script is by Hayashi Mori (Cells at Work! Code Black, Drifting Home) and the music is the responsibility of Yūgo Kanno (JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure: Stardust Crusaders, Psycho-Pass, Ajin). The sound direction is Yoshikazu Iwanami.

The manga Sandland was released by Akira Toriyama in Weekly Shōnen Jump from May to August 2000. And its only volume was published in November 2000.

Sand Land Synopsis:

In the distant future, war has destroyed the entire Earth, leaving only a barren desert where the water supply is controlled by the greedy king. Searching for a long-lost lake, Sheriff Rao asked the king of demons for help… and got the king’s son, Beelzebub, and his assistant, Thief. Together, the unlikely trio sets out across the desert, facing dragons, bandits, and the deadliest enemy of all… the king’s own army!

Toriyama began his first serialized manga, Dr. Slumpin 1980, and inspired two anime series and several films. Toriyama continued later with Dragon Ball, which was released from 1984 to 1995, and still inspires sequels and spinoffs in the form of manga and anime today. He is also known as the games’ character designer Dragon Quest, Chrono Trigger It is Blue Dragon.
