The story is set at Shiomi Academy, a vast, prestigious academy with a Daitoshokan (literally, "great library") that rivals Japan's national library. As a member of the Library Club, Kyoutarou Kakei goes to Daitoshokan to enjoy reading by himself. A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd

“A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd” (Daitoshokan no Hitsujikai) is an anime series that is based on a visual novel. The story revolves around Kyoutarou Kakei, a second-year student at Shiomi Academy and the de facto president of the Library Club. The series is set in the renowned Great Library of the academy.

The plot is centered around “The Shepherd,” an urban legend of Shiomi Academy. The Shepherd is said to appear before hardworking students to grant them a wish. One day, while engrossed in a book inside the Great Library, Kyoutarou receives an email from the Shepherd foretelling an event that will change his fate. This message leads him to a nearby train station where he encounters fellow student Tsugumi Shirasaki. He saves her from being hit by a derailing train. In gratitude for his heroic actions, Tsugumi joins the Library Club and invites Kyoutarou to participate in her mysterious “Shiomi Happy Project”. Together with other new members of the club, they strive to make the academy a better place and uncover the identity of the enigmatic Shepherd.

The series does a decent job of achieving what it sets out to do. It has a somewhat interesting plot about Shepherds (not the sheep kind) and a cast of likable characters. However, it doesn’t bring anything new to the table. The story is fine, the characters are fine, and the art is fine. It’s a truly mediocre school/harem/magic/slice of life anime.

Despite its mediocrity, the series is recommended to fans of the harem genre who want a simple show. If you can look past the fact that it doesn’t bring anything new to the table, you might find it enjoyable. The series provides a coherent plot, enjoyable characters, entertaining drama, and an overall comfy feeling.

In conclusion, “A Good Librarian Like a Good Shepherd” is a decent anime that could have been much more. It has its moments, but it ultimately falls short of greatness due to its lack of originality. However, if you’re a fan of the harem genre or if you’re looking for a simple and enjoyable anime to watch, then this series might be worth checking out.
