Editor's Review
“Basquash!” is an anime that combines the thrill of sports with the excitement of mecha, set in a world where giant robots play basketball. The series aired from April 3, 2009, to October 2, 2009, and consists of 26 episodes.
The story revolves around Dan JD, a boy living in Rollingtown on the planet Earthdash. He gets caught up in Bigfoot Basketball, a fast-paced sport played with giant Bigfoot robots. Despite the seemingly absurd premise, the series manages to create an engaging narrative that keeps viewers hooked.
One of the standout features of “Basquash!” is its animation. The series boasts high production values, with great coloring, effects, and detail. The animation style has a slight western influence, adding to its unique appeal.
The characters in “Basquash!” are rich and diverse, each with their own unique personalities and backgrounds. The protagonist, Dan JD, is somewhat annoying with a chip on his shoulder, but his determination to help his sister adds depth to his character. The series also features a strong supporting cast, further enhancing the narrative.
However, “Basquash!” is not without its flaws. The series starts off strong, with an inventive sports recipe of basketball, but it ends up collapsing midway, failing to meet viewers’ expectations. The story lacks depth, and it’s your typical shonen anime with sports and mecha combined.
Despite these shortcomings, “Basquash!” is still a series worth watching. The animation is very good, and the depth of story and characters, along with the writing, makes it come alive. The series manages to turn a seemingly ridiculous premise into an intriguing narrative, making it a surprising addition to the anime world.
