Link Click

“Link Click” is an intriguing time-travel anime that offers a unique spin on the genre. The series is an original Chinese donghua, written and directed by Li Haoling, and produced by LAN Studio and Haoliners Animation League. It aired its first season from April 30, 2021, to July 9, 2021, on Bilibili and Funimation. A second season aired from July 14, 2023, to September 22, 2023.

The story revolves around Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang, who run the “Time Photo Studio”. They provide a special service where they use their extraordinary powers to enter photographs and travel back in time to the moment the photo was taken. Cheng Xiaoshi assumes the identity of the photographer, absorbing their memories and emotions in the process. Concurrently, Lu Guang has the ability to keep track of the events in time and helps Cheng Xiaoshi relive the experiences of the photographer.

The duo operates under strict conditions: they have only 12 hours with one chance to travel in time and find what their client is searching for while also leaving the events of the past unchanged. This unique time-travel mechanism using photographs sets “Link Click” apart from other series in the genre.

The series does an excellent job of building suspense and intrigue. Each episode presents a new client’s request, leading to a different adventure in time. The risks involved in their missions add a layer of tension that keeps viewers on edge. Moreover, as they delve deeper into their clients’ lives, they often find themselves entangled in complex situations that challenge their abilities and moral judgment.

The animation quality is top-notch, with detailed character designs and fluid animation during the time-travel sequences. The sound design complements the visuals perfectly, enhancing the overall viewing experience.

One of the most compelling aspects of “Link Click” is its character development. Both Cheng Xiaoshi and Lu Guang are well-rounded characters with their own strengths and weaknesses. Their dynamic partnership forms the heart of the series. As they navigate through their clients’ pasts, they also grapple with their own personal issues, adding depth to their characters.

In conclusion, “Link Click” is a refreshing take on the time-travel genre that successfully combines drama, mystery, and supernatural elements. Its unique premise, engaging narrative, well-developed characters, and high-quality animation make it a must-watch for any anime enthusiast.
