Synopsis
After being threatened by extinction at the hands of alien invaders called the Zentradi, humanity undertook the task of guaranteeing itself a future by launching fleets of colony ships into space. On Macross Frontier, one such fleet, high school student Saotome Alto's life is changed forever: the fleet is suddenly attacked by unidentified creatures while he is performing aerial stunts for a concert by the wildly popular idol Sheryl.
Alto quickly finds himself in the cockpit of a new-model fighter struggling to protect Ranka Lee, a young girl he met only hours earlier, from the invaders' swath of destruction. Noting his performance during this incident, the S.M.S. Skull Squadron private military company invites Alto to join their organization, where he continues protecting his friends and Macross Frontier.

“Macross Frontier” is the latest installment in the 25-year-old mecha franchise. The series is set in the year 2059 AD, 47 years after the original series, Super Dimension Fortress Macross. The story revolves around a love triangle and how the three cope with each other while dealing with threats from a new alien race.
The series follows the new migration fleet, Macross Frontier, as it escapes towards the center of the galaxy following a catastrophic war against a race of giants known as the Zentradi. However, the fleet is now under attack by a new alien race.
The protagonist of the series is a young mecha pilot trainee named Alto Saotome. Alto is preparing to perform an accompanying routine for the famous singer Sheryl Nome, who has come to Macross Frontier for a concert. During the performance, a biomechanical alien species known as the Vajra make a sudden appearance, causing chaos.
Despite the initial chaos, the series is promising in every aspect early on. The battle animations are absolutely stunning, with fluid CG battle animations and very detailed character outlook. The background for most scenery is well thought out and well designed.
However, as the series progresses, some flaws become more apparent. Despite these rough patches, the series remains watchable and is ultimately a very worthwhile watch.
