Editor's Review
“Shine Post” is an anime that takes viewers into a futuristic world where the line between humans and autonomous dolls is blurred. The series revolves around the concept of ‘Automata’, autonomous dolls that were initially created for war but are now seeking purpose in a peaceful world.
The story centers around an idol group, TiNgS, on the verge of disbandment. However, if they can fill all two thousand seats in their upcoming anniversary concert, their idol careers will live to see another day. This quota seems impossible for a group like them, especially when the most people they have had at a show is 37. Fortunately, they are placed under a new talented manager—Naoki Hinase.
The narrative of “Shine Post” is compelling and nuanced. It’s not your run-of-the-mill idol show with cute girls, catchy songs, and nice performances. Instead, it sets itself apart by crafting a compelling story and realistic nuanced characters. It puts into perspective the struggles of being an underappreciated, overshadowed idol group with a metaphorical mountain to climb until said group can hit the big time.
One of the standout aspects of “Shine Post” is its animation style. It eschews the CG rigs that have come to be expected in idol series, instead making heavy use of rotoscoping for dance sequences. This gives an uncanny smoothness to it, unnaturally fluid and detailed compared to how everything else moves.
In conclusion, “Shine Post” offers a fresh perspective on the concept of autonomous beings seeking purpose. It’s an exploration of identity and purpose through the lens of idols. With its thought-provoking themes, well-developed characters, and unique animation style, “Shine Post” offers an anime experience like no other.
