Editor's Review
Silver Spoon

“Silver Spoon”, also known as “Gin no Saji”, is a unique anime series that offers a fresh perspective on the slice-of-life genre. The series is set in the Ooezo Agricultural High School, a boarding school located in the Hokkaido countryside. The story revolves around Yuugo Hachiken, a studious, hard-working student who is tired of trying to live up to expectations he just cannot meet. With the ushering in of a brand new school year, he decides to enroll in Ooezo Agricultural High School as a means to escape from the stress brought upon by his parents.

The series is characterized by its unique premise and its focus on agricultural life. Each episode introduces a new aspect of farming life, and then Hachiken learns to adapt to these new experiences. This formulaic approach can make the show feel tedious at times, especially since an overarching story is near-nonexistent.

The animation quality of “Silver Spoon” is noteworthy. The series does not compromise on the quality of its animation. However, the sound design does not stand out as much, and may not be particularly memorable.

Despite its focus on comedy and slice-of-life, “Silver Spoon” also incorporates elements of drama. The series presents a variety of scenarios that Hachiken must navigate, adding depth to the story. The series also does a good job of presenting its characters in a logical order, allowing viewers to easily follow the story.

In conclusion, “Silver Spoon” is a highly enjoyable series that offers a unique take on the slice-of-life genre. With its well-developed characters, engaging story, and high-quality animation, “Silver Spoon” is a must-watch for fans of the genre.
