Editor's Review
Technoroid: Overmind

“Technoroid: Overmind” is a captivating anime series that takes viewers into a future where rising sea levels and a rapidly declining human population have led to the creation of androids. These androids perform most menial tasks, allowing humans to focus on other aspects of life.

The story revolves around four androids—Cobalt, Chrom, Neon, and Kei—who are down on their luck and about to have their electricity cut off due to unpaid bills. In a desperate bid to make ends meet, they decide to become Babel climbers. Babel is a tower where participants captivate audiences with song and dance to clear Climb Stages. The higher they climb, the more prize money is awarded.

However, winning the audience’s favor proves to be a great challenge. Dejected but unwilling to give up, Cobalt resolves to somehow improve their chances after watching an impressive performance by STAND-ALONE—the top climber unit. When the group stumbles across a mysterious choreographer willing to give away his routine, Cobalt sees this as their only way up.

With the help of their human companion, Esora Shibaura, the androids form the unit KNoCC to tackle the daunting climb to the top of Babel. Along the way, they must also overcome android-based discrimination.

“Technoroid: Overmind” does an excellent job of portraying the harsh realities of a world where androids are seen as lesser beings. It explores themes of discrimination, perseverance, and the struggle for survival in a world where one’s life can be controlled by another. The characters are well-developed, each with their unique motivations and struggles. The determination of Cobalt and his companions to change their circumstances adds depth to their characters.

The series also delves into the complexities of human-android relations. It provides a detailed depiction of the power dynamics between humans and androids and how these dynamics affect their interactions. The strategic maneuvers and battles are thrilling to watch, keeping viewers on edge.

In conclusion, “Technoroid: Overmind” is a captivating anime series that offers a deep dive into a world filled with political intrigue and conflict. Its well-crafted storyline, complex characters, and intense battle scenes make it a must-watch for any anime fan.
