Tekken 8 introduces the tempestuous Reina

A Bandai Namco Entertainment released a new trailer for the game Tekken 8, where he reveals another playable character. This time the chosen one was a newcomer, Reina, a fighter who will play a fundamental role in the story of the eighth edition of the Iron Fist Tournament.

Kohei Ikedathe director of Tekken 8 commented at the PlayStation Blog the next:

Reina was a character conceived during the development of Tekken 7’s story a decade ago and will play a vital role in Tekken 8’s story, The Dark Awakens. Despite her elegant and charming appearance, she exudes a charismatic sense of evil that reflects her character’s duality in both personality and fighting style.

Reina employs an acrobatic fighting style with roots in Taido that uses fast, brutal techniques to reflect her personality. She uses a special move called Sentai to quickly close distance and launch attacks, while Unsoku allows her to deliver powerful attacks with agile footwork while demonstrating a quick and aggressive approach to combat. Additionally, Reina has somehow acquired techniques such as the Wind God Fist and the Spinning Demon, synonymous with Mishima karate, and even displays the appearance of a powerful fighter by delivering powerful blows from the Wrath of Heaven stance, once used by Heihachi, who has already passed away. Her offensive capabilities around walls, in particular, are among the most potent of any character.

Reina is a character who emphasizes duality in several aspects. To create a distinct counterpart to the powerful Mishima style karate, we chose Taido as the second fighting style. Taido is known for its graceful and fast movements, with sharp and agile attacks. In producing Reina’s Taido techniques, we collaborated with the famous expert, Mr. Tetsuji Nakano, who has won the World Taido Championship four times. Mr. Nakano is not only knowledgeable in Taido but also in several other martial arts. His advice on brutal techniques helped to further highlight the distinctive features and personality of Reina’s moves.

We were excited to work with Ms. Mariko Shimazaki, who had previously contributed character design for characters such as Kazumi and Josie for Tekken 7. We reached out to her for design during the early stages of brainstorming character concepts and keywords, despite that we gave her the challenging task of capturing the look of a genuine martial artist with a bold fighting style that mixes elements of Taido and Mishima style karate, while also being a young woman who seems somewhat mysterious and has this duality, and presented an exceptional design.

Thanks to the design proposals we received from Ms. Shimazaki, the big direction for Reina was clear from the start. When creating the 3D model, we worked on incorporating elements related to its hidden past and duality and shaping them into an appealing design. Therefore, pay attention to these aspects.

Tekken 8 will be released for PlayStation 5, Xbox Series It is PRAÇA (Steam) on January 26, 2024.
