The official website for the anime series adaptation of the novel Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (魔法科高校の劣等生 / “The Irregular at Magic High School“) in Tsutomu Satou announced that the third season will premiere on April 5, 2024. The series will have a preview event on March 31.
This third season will consist of a total of three parts titled “Double Seven Arc”, “Steeplechase Arc” and “Ancient City Insurrection Arc”.
The cast of the anime joins Kikunosuke Toya (Denji in Chainsaw Man) as Minoru Kudou, Tatsumaru Tachibana (Jin Mori in The God of High School) as Takuma Shippo and Houchu Ohtsuka (Jiraiya in Naruto) as Retsu Kudou. It replaces Motomu Kiyokawa who passed away in 2022.
Jimmy Stone, animation director and episode director for the franchise’s previous anime projects is the director of the new series by the studio 8-Bit. Taku Iwasaki (Black Butler, Bungo Stray Dogs, Gurren Lagann) is once again responsible for composing the soundtrack.
Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei (The Irregular at Magic High School) began publication in 2008 and ended in September 2020 with 32 volumes. Two sequels were released in October 2020 and January 2021.
The first season of the anime series adaptation premiered in April 2014 with 26 episodes. a second season dubbed The Irregular at Magic High School: Visitor Arc premiered on October 3, 2021 and consisted of 13 episodes. The animation is from the studio 8-Bit (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime, Infinite Stratos), directed by Risako Yoshida (The irregular at magic high school The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars), the character design is by Kana Ishida It is Taku Iwasaki returns to compose the music.
The anime also includes the film The irregular at magic high school The Movie: The Girl Who Summons the Stars which premiered in June 2017. In the film we meet a new character called Kokoa who is a deserter from the Navy base and who ends up in Miyuki’s care. Her appearance is that of a very young woman, but she is shrouded in mystery.
The history of Mahouka Koukou no Rettousei takes place in a world where magic is not a fairy tale, but has existed for almost a hundred years. In spring, the University of Magic welcomes new students, including the brothers Tatsuya and Miyuki Shiba, from that moment on the university will never be the same.
