Here in the OtakuPT we had already reported on 2020 that a new anime in the franchise Code Geass was in production and would be called Gode Geass: Z of the Recapture (Dakkan no Zetto), but when it appeared in Jump Festa 2024 your name was different, Code Geass: Rozé of the Recapture, but what happened after all? Well, it was a war, the invasion of Ukraine on the part of Russia.

This “current global situation” led the production to change the name of the anime. According to the Comic Natalie the anime team originally planned to use the title Z of the Recapture, but the “current global situation” led to a name change. As such, it was changed to Rozé of the Recapture.

What was the global situation made the team change the title, the war. The letter “Z” may be impartial on its own, but when viewed through a military lens, it has ties to the Russian invasion of Ukraine. During the war the lyrics Z it was quickly adopted by Russian forces to identify themselves on the battlefield. This is the reason why military vehicles belonging to the Russian Armed Forces are often marked with a Z.

As the war progresses, the symbol Z became heavily propagandized in Russia. In fact, the symbol was so widely adopted by the Allies pro-Russian that several European governments have banned it entirely. Although the lyrics Z may not seem offensive, it now has a defined history when viewed through a military lens. Given the political tension of Code Geassthe anime team chose to rename this their next project Code Geass.
