In history, Kakuzu was a talented young ninja from Takigakure who was sent to kill Hokage First Konoha, Hashirama Senju.
Against the Ninja God but Kakuzu was lucky enough because in the end he was able to survive.
But the question is, what and how could Kakuzu survive from Hashirama?
1. It is possible that Kakuzu did not have 5 hearts when he fought Hashirama.

He can replace his heart when one is destroyed and his life becomes longer than it should be.
But during his fight against Hashirama, it was likely that Kakuzu was still a normal ninja who only had one heart.
The reason is because he started to become evil and started to find out about information. Jutsu forbidden yes after his defeat by Hashirama, blamed by his own village, and he went on a rampage.
2. Hashirama probably let him escape

But since Kakuzu’s attack on Hashirama was only a surprise attack in an attempt to assassinate him, not a large-scale attack, perhaps Hashirama’s reaction would have been a little different.
It could be that Hashirama let Kakuzu escape after knowing that Kakuzu realized he couldn’t win against Hashirama.
3. Pretending to be dead is one of Kakuzu’s tricks
crunchyroll.com/Naruto ShippudenWhen fighting Kakashi, the Konoha ninja managed to destroy one of Kakuzu’s hearts and thought that Kakuzu was dead.
But that’s not true because Kakuzu still has four more hearts and after pretending to be dead, Kakuzu immediately attacks Kakashi.
It’s possible that Kakuzu also did the same thing with his fake death trick when fighting Hashirama, although it still feels strange why Hashirama didn’t finish it, maybe it has something to do with point 2 as well.
