Hunter x Hunte vol 37 cover

We already reported a leak here that revealed that Yoshihiro Togashithe author of the manga Hunter X Hunterwould participate in a Japanese program where he would reveal how the manga will end if he dies, and Togashi in the program Iwakura and Yoshizumi Show from the TV Asahi He even ended up revealing his plans.

We thus know that he conceived four possible scenarios to finish the story of Hunter X Hunter. He said in a letter read aloud during the program he developed three of the possible endings. He presented a final quarter during the program, and added that it could be considered the ending if he passed away before formally finishing the manga. Togashi has 57 years old.

Yoshihiro Togashi revealed that the 4th ending (“D ending”) takes place after a time jump, years in the future. Mirroring the beginning of the manga, a girl named Gin is fishing in a lake and catches a huge fish. She proudly brings her mother the fish and proclaims to her mother that she can never ask her to become a hunter again, before leaving her mother with the fish. Her mother debates Gin’s future with Gin’s father, expressing disappointment that her daughter does not want to become a hunter like her famous grandfather Gon.

After a change of scenery, Gin reveals that she does not want to become a hunter because of how often her grandfather Gon left her grandmother Nouko alone at home due to his adventures as a hunter. She vows to never leave the island again and to stay by someone’s side forever when a boy enters the room.

The final scene of the D ending is a bird flying into the sky while someone watches.

Togashi hopes to be able to think of an ending satisfying enough to not have to resort to possible endings A, B or C, which he predicted would have a mixed reception from the public. He believes that readers’ reactions will be 80% positive to ending A, divided equally over ending B, and 90% negative to ending C. (He highlighted that he personally doesn’t think ending A will be highly rated by readers, just that it would be the ending “safe” and non-controversial). Despite the overwhelming criticism he would receive from fans, Togashi personally prefers ending C among the possible endings.

The manga of Hunter X Hunter went on hiatus in January, citing the author’s health problems. A Shueisha stated at the time that he consulted with Togashi and decided that the manga should not follow a weekly serialized format from now on. The editorial department added that as soon as it knows concrete details about the manga’s return and how the manga will be serialized going forward, it would reveal the details in the magazine. Recently, Togashi hinted that the manga will return soon.

The manga returned after a nearly four-year hiatus in the magazine’s 47th 2022 issue, which launched in October 2022. The manga had been on hiatus since November 2018. Shueisha published the 37th volume of the manga, the first volume of the manga after four years, in November 2022.

Togashi released the manga Hunter X Hunter in Shueisha’s Weekly Shonen Jump magazine in 1998. The manga inspired two anime series, two anime films, and several OVAs.
