O official site of the new anime based on the novel Spice & Wolfwhich premieres in April 2024, released a new trailer.

Entitled Spice & Wolf: merchant meets the wise wolf (Ōkami to Kōshinryō: merchant meets the wise wolf), the new anime will be animated by studio Passione and produced by ENISHIYA. Takeo Takahashi is returning to the franchise, this time as chief director, while Hijiri Sanpei (Spice and Wolf II episode director) is directing the anime.

Furthermore, in the voice cast (seiyuu’s), we will once again have Jun Fukuyama as Kraft Lawrence and Ami Koshimizu as Holo.

On the franchise’s official Twitter we can read: “Please look forward to their new journey”.

The original ad from anime did not specify whether the new anime is a sequence, remake or an original work. The original ad featured the taglines: “Should we embark on a journey again?” It is “the story of Holo the Wisewolf and Lawrence the Merchant continues.” The series is celebrating its 15th anniversary.

About Spice and Wolf

A light novel original of Spice and Wolf was launched in Kadokawa Shoten magazine in February 2006 and had been officially completed in 2011, but the author chose to write a direct continuation returning in the 18th volume in 2016. The 23rd and final volume was released on September 10, 2021.

A novel also has an adaptation mango by Keito Koume released in 2007 and an adaptation anime with two seasons by the Imagin studio, the first with 13 episodes premiered in March 2008, while the second season aired in 2009 with a total of 12 episodes.

A virtual reality anime followed the anime television and debuted in June 2019 for Oculus Rift, HTC VIVE and Oculus Go Edition. A sequel premiered in December 2020.

Spice and Wolf Synopsis

The life of a traveling merchant is a lonely one, a fact Kraft Lawrence knows well. Wandering from town to town with just his horse, wagon, and whatever goods came his way, the peddler settled into his routine quite well—that is, until the night Lawrence finds a wolf goddess sleeping in his wagon. Taking the form of an attractive girl with wolf ears and a tail, Holo has grown tired of tending crops in the field and makes a deal with the merchant to lend her the cunning of “Holo the Wise Wolf” to increase his profits in exchange for take it with you on your travels. What kind of businessman could refuse such an offer? Lawrence soon discovers, however, that having an ancient goddess as a traveling companion can be a mixed blessing. Will this wolf girl become too wild to tame?
