Unveiling Wano’s Hidden Past: How Kaido’s Obsession Connects to Ancient Secrets in One Piece

Look, in chapter 1055 of One Piece, we discovered that Kaido had his reasons for keeping an eye on Wano, and for good reason. Wano is hiding nothing more, nothing less than one of the Ancient Weapons, Pluto. So, stay tuned for spoilers to come!

The history of Wano and its importance has just been thrown onto the table for us to understand once and for all. The talk about opening Wano’s borders has never made so much sense. In this bombastic chapter, we discover a secret about the Ancient Weapons and, man, it makes perfect sense that Kaido has wanted to dominate Wano for so long.

Sukiyaki Revelations

The Submerged Secret

In chapter 1055, we follow Sukiyaki, Kozuki Oden’s big daddy, taking Nico Robin and Trafalgar Law down a path that not even they expected. Descending a staircase that looks like it came out of a horror movie, Sukiyaki begins to spill the beans about why Kaido wants Wano. He shows the duo an ancient city at the bottom of the sea, the first country of Wano, which is already around 800 years old on its coasts, coming straight from the period before the Century of the Void.

The story gets even crazier when Sukiyaki says that this city was swallowed by water because of some mysterious constructions around the island. As time passed, rainwater accumulated and submerged Wano, causing the people to move upwards to Mount Fuji. And this whole change was responsible for the giant waterfalls that even Luffy and Big Mom had to face to get to Wano.

The Pluto Connection

Why Kaido Wanted Wano

But Sukiyaki didn’t stop there. He showed the Road Poneglyph to Robin and Law and dropped the bomb: Opening Wano’s borders means releasing the Ancient Weapon, Pluto. This talk of opening borders has been a mantra throughout the Wano saga, and now we understand why Kaido is obsessed.

Kaido, who was once a newcomer with the potential to be the Pirate King, has his story somewhat linked to Joyboy’s. He attempted to replace real smiles with the production of SMILE fruits, in an attempt to imitate the effect Joyboy had on the world. Now we know that Kaido had his reasons for valuing Wano’s borders so much, especially after we discover that Jack, one of his, found the Road Poneglyph and perhaps even Pluton, hidden beneath ancient Wano.

It’s still up in the air why Oden wanted to open Wano’s borders and how this connects to One Piece. But one thing is certain: it will be very interesting to see Momonosuke’s reaction to all of this, now that he has the power to decide the future of Wano in his hands. And who knows, maybe the pieces of the puzzle about Kaido’s knowledge of the world’s true history will fall into place soon. But one thing is a fact: Kaido knew things that the other Yonko didn’t know, and chapter 1055 only confirmed this.
