In episode 6, Natsu’s team, who was on the brink of defeat due to Mercphobia’s extraordinary power, was visited by another dragon god, Ignia. Fortunately, this dragon only gave Natsu a gift of fire in order to take down the water god.
Why is Ignia helping the witch who will hunt her in the future? Here’s the explanation!
1. Ignia appears when Natsu’s team is cornered by Mercphobia

At that time, Natsu insisted on fighting the water dragon despite the huge difference in their strength. Because of that, he was sucked into the whirlpool in the sky.
Luckily, Natsu is caught by a giant figure who tells Mercphobia that the Dragon Slayer is his prey. Lucy and Wendy immediately realize that the creature is one of the other dragon gods.
Sure enough, the figure was none other than Ignia, Igneel’s biological daughter.
2. Instead of fighting Mercphobia, Ignia burned Ermina and told Natsu to eat all the fire to get stronger

The Dragon Slayer himself didn’t have many other choices because if left alone, the city of Ermina would be destroyed by the dragon’s fire.
3. Ignia’s motive for strengthening Natsu himself is so that his adopted brother can provide fun fights in the future.

He was apparently curious because the person who took down Acnologia turned out to be his own adopted brother. However, after judging that Natsu was still too weak to fight him directly, Ignia decided to feed his fire.
Well, Ignia apparently just wants Natsu to reach his level so he can give him a fun fight until one of them dies and turns to ash.
Therefore, he did not want to fight Mercphobia because it was considered to interfere with his younger sibling’s development.
Ignia himself wasn’t just talking nonsense because his fire really made Natsu succeed in taking down Mercphobia easily, even if only temporarily.
