Japanese police arrested Koichiro Ito (52) in Shibuya, Tokyo on February 21 on suspicion of violating child prostitution and child pornography laws. Ito would have coerced a high school student whom he met through social media sending him nude photographs of her, and police are investigating the possibility of other victims.

Ito’s crime occurred in September 2021, when he instructed a first-year high school student (15 years old at the time) to take a nude selfie and send it to him, aware that she was underage. His involvement apparently came to light during the investigation of another child prostitution case.
Ito reportedly admitted the accusationseven stating that he had similar exchanges with another person and that he “can’t remember if it was with this girl or not”.
Police investigators revealed that the suspect is “Ito Koichiro, credited as producer of the award-winning animated film “Your Name.” (2016), by Makoto Shinkai, as well as other well-known titles such as Suzume, Jardim das Palavras and Time with You.
