Editor's Review
“Ultramarine Magmell” is an anime that presents a unique and somewhat brilliant concept, but its execution has been met with mixed reviews.
The story revolves around a new continent, Magmell, that suddenly appears in the Pacific Ocean. This sparks a new era of explorers and colonizers, eager to discover the unknown creatures and resources that Magmell has to offer. The protagonist, Inyo, works as a rescuer for explorers on this new continent.
Despite its potential, the anime adaptation of “Ultramarine Magmell” has been criticized for its unnecessary comic relief and abrupt shifts in tone. These elements often detract from the overall narrative, making it difficult for viewers to fully engage with the story.
Moreover, the series has been criticized for being generic. It tries to be self-aware and become a parody of other shounen action anime but relies way too heavily on the tropes and clichés it is trying to subvert. It just feels like it doesn’t know what it wants to be.
Despite these criticisms, “Ultramarine Magmell” is still a good introduction to the franchise. The anime is top-notch, and both the subbed and dubbed versions are enjoyable. However, the manga of “Ultramarine Magmell” tells a much more complete story.
In conclusion, “Ultramarine Magmell” is a series that had potential but was ultimately let down by its execution. Its unique premise, engaging characters, and high-quality animation make it a series worth watching. However, viewers should be prepared for some frustrating character behaviors and a narrative that may not meet their expectations.
