Trailer reveals the premiere date of the Tonari no Yokai-san anime series

With this trailer, the official website of the anime adaptation of the manga Tonari no Yokai-san (The Youkai Next to Me) by naho announced that the premiere will take place on April 6, 2024. In the video we can hear the opening theme “Obake Himawari” (Ghost Sunflower) by Pii.

Below is a new promotional image with the premiere date. The ending theme is “Iro no Naka” (Inside the Color) by Aoi Kubo.

With animation by the studio Liden Films (BASTARD!!, The Heroic Legend of Arslan, Terra Formars, Hanebado!), directed by Aimi Yamauchi (Salaryman’s Club), the argument is Tomoko Konparu (Blue Spring Ride, Cherry Magic! Thirty Years of Virginity Can Make You a Wizard?!) and the character design is by Shigemitsu Abe (key animation from Kingdom, Aikatsu!).

In the cast we have:

  • Asaki Yuikawa as Mutsumi Sugimoto (Mu-chan), a curious and energetic human girl
  • Ryōsuke Higa as Jirōbō Enkazan (Jirō), a 500-year-old crow tengu creature who watches over Mu-chan
  • Yuuki Kaji as Buchio Ōishi, a 20-year-old cat who suddenly evolved into a mythical creature Nekomata

Tonari no Yokai-san (The Yōkai Next to Me) began to be released on Twitter in 2018 and ended with its 4th volume on April 7, 2022.

The story takes place in a rural town and tells the stories of the carefree, exciting and sometimes mysterious lives of youkai, humans and gods who live side by side in the city.

In the manga’s first story, a 20-year-old cat named Buchio suddenly evolves into a mythical creature Nekomata. Buchio worries about why they suddenly transformed into a yōkai creature, and together with a fox named Yuri, they begin attending a “Bakegaku” academy for creatures.
